How exciting would it be to discover that you come from kings or that one of your ancestors played a role in history that changed the world forever? Searching for your ancestors on one of the genealogy websites online might just reveal your royal (or maybe not so royal) blood.

People learn every day that they have such a person in their family history. You never know what you will find. However, there are lines in your family history that are going to go back if you put the time and the energy into searching for the right information.

For some, kings, queens, history makers, evil doers, and other strange and interesting characters pop up. Records are only kept back so far, and so many are lost or destroyed. So for many people, family lines are going to stop as dead ends.

Of course, the best way to find out is to hop online to sites like Ancestry.com and see if anything turns up. But don’t stop there. I found other sources to help trace my family tree.

You can start, as I did, tracing your family history by talking to the eldest generations in your family. Ask them about their parents and grandparents. Some may even remember the names of their great grandparents. Ask them to tell you all the names and stories they can remember.

This is definitely the best place to get you going and you will hear some good stories as well. They may have hints that can help, as some family stories are passed down from generation to generation. Some sound like fables, but there is usually some truth to the story.
